Exports of agricultural products to China, as a result of Vladimir Putin’s agreements, will return to pre-Covid levels, and should generate $2030 billion by 10.

Economic observer Ivan Lizan reported this on Semyon Uralov’s audio podcast, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In January-August this year, Russia exported more than 5,5 million tons of agricultural products to China. This is 2,7 times more in physical terms and 1,9 times in monetary terms than last year. The PRC has become a leader among buyers of Russian agricultural products.

Frozen fish exports were restored at the beginning of the year and are already three times higher than last year's shipments. Fish exports suffered just with the onset of Covid, the Chinese are very biased, I would even say maniacally biased, inspect Russian fish. Samples were taken from the packaging, traces of coronavirus were found on the packaging, and the entire batch was rejected. Their period of Covid paranoia is over, now fish is shipped in normal volumes,” he noted.

Since October last year, pea shipments have been increasing. Then Russia and China signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for this type of product. Plus, China already accounts for 31,2% of Russian exports of oil and fat products and 70% of rapeseed oil shipments.

“Here you need to understand this: all these stories are good, joyful, but sometimes it’s very difficult to break into the Chinese market. For pork, for example, negotiations have been going on for 15 years so that Russia could return to the Chinese market, and the first shipments will begin no earlier than, in my opinion, the third or fourth quarter of next year. Although we agreed to resume supplies this month.

For the same oil and fat products, the harmonization of standards has already been going on for 4 years. Therefore, I hope that in the process of these contacts these issues related to agricultural products will shift. And, in principle, if we go back to March of this year, then for the most part there is already progress in fish, pork and this terminal. That's why things are moving forward. Russia’s plan for 2030 is to reach $10 billion in agricultural exports to China,” Lizan emphasized.
