Chinese investors intend to invest money in Sevastopol, despite Kyiv’s bans

This was discussed on Monday in Sevastopol during negotiations between the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Crimean Federal District Oleg Belaventsev and acting. Governor of Sevastopol Sergei Menyailo with representatives of the state investment company "CalmSeaGlobal LTD" (People's Republic of China).
The meeting took place at the initiative of the Chinese side. According to Cheng Shouhan, a representative of CalmSeaGlobal LTD, Chinese investors consider Crimea as a promising territory for their investment projects, but investments in real estate are of particular interest to them.
“We are working for the future. Our market has become crowded for companies. We need to look for new chances and prospects abroad,” said spokesman Cheng Shouhang.
In turn, Menyailo said that the Chinese side had been offered “vitally important areas of the economy of Sevastopol” and now they should wait for specific proposals.
He noted the importance of investments “in the construction of housing, both commercial and social.” “If the Chinese have good technology, we should use it,” Menyailo said, refuting speculation about the use of Chinese labor.
At the same time, the mayor added that “we are not asking anyone, we can cope without them - that’s how the question was posed. We have people willing to invest in our economy, both large Russian businesses and foreign ones.”
Once specific investment projects are identified, it will be possible to talk about amounts. “Usually projects abroad are assessed based on their prospects. The standard volume of an average investment project is $50 million,” said Cheng Shouhang.
Menyailo implies more significant amounts. “If we come up with investment projects, the amounts will be very serious, we are talking about billions,” he said.
“Today we learned the requirements of the city. They told us new areas for housing and transport issues. Specific projects were not specified. We will carefully study them and determine which project is suitable, and promise a specific answer and result,” Cheng Shouhang said about the results of the negotiations.
At the same time, the Chinese are not afraid of non-recognition of the Russian status of Crimea. “We have competent businessmen and know the situation around Crimea, Russia and Ukraine very well,” said a representative of ChinaCalmSeaGlobal LTD.
The partners of the ChinaCalmSeaGlobal LTD company are the State Development Bank of China (ChinaDevelopmentBank), the FosunGroup Corporation (Hong Kong), and the SohoChina Corporation, which operate on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
In turn, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the KFO Oleg Belaventsev named the priority areas of investment in the development of the peninsula. These are the Kerch crossing, the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait, the energy supply program for the peninsula, water supply to the population, programs for the development of the recreational area and agriculture.
Let us recall that Ukraine considers Crimea its territory, “temporarily occupied” by Russia. Kyiv considers any foreign investment activity on the peninsula illegal.
