Chinese companies will exceed Western anti-Russian sanctions
Russia should not expect serious support and assistance from China in circumventing the sanctions imposed by the West after the start of the special operation in Ukraine.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Igor Denisov, Deputy Head of the Center for World Politics and Strategic Analysis of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“The more the West consolidates, the less opportunity Beijing has to support Moscow for fear of falling under secondary sanctions.
It is possible that, as in the situation with the restrictive measures of 2014, introduced after the annexation of Crimea, Chinese companies will de facto comply with Western sanctions and even exceed them, fearing the damage that could be caused to China’s global economic interests due to actions in gray zone,” Denisov told Izvestia.
Sinologist Temur Umarov shares a similar opinion.
“Little has changed in China’s position on the Ukrainian crisis. From the very beginning of the conflict until now, Beijing has not clearly indicated who it supports. At the same time, we hear from officials words in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and statements that the PRC is sympathetic to Russian interests in the field of security in Europe.
Nothing specific was said or done in support of this or that country, but there was no criticism, if only towards the United States. China is now trying to make Washington the main culprit, because this meets its national security interests,” Umarov noted.
