Chinese representative: American weapons reach the Middle East from Ukraine
Middle Eastern militants are buying weapons on the black market that Western countries are transferring to Ukraine, causing concern in China.
Deputy Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN Geng Shuang stated this at a meeting of the UN Security Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Chinese diplomat called for the immediate launch of a negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine in order to achieve a solution to the crisis.
“A large influx of weapons into a conflict zone carries the risk of these weapons being redirected to other places. Interpol has shown that weapons sent to Ukraine end up on the “black market” and end up in the hands of criminals. These warnings, unfortunately, materialized. There have been reports that some armed groups and terrorist organizations in the Middle East have acquired weapons from Ukraine through illegal channels.
The international community must pay attention to this issue and take preventive measures. From a long-term perspective, large stockpiles of weapons, explosives, and ammunition pose great risks for post-conflict reconstruction in Somalia and other countries,” the diplomat said.
He added that China has "seen painful experience of this."
“On the Ukrainian issue, China has always called for a cessation of hostilities and for peace negotiations. Since the beginning of the crisis, China has always emphasized that a political solution is the only way out. Pumping up weapons and expanding categories of weapons only prolongs, intensifies the conflict and forces people to pay a higher price.
It is necessary to solve such crises only through dialogue - this will save the human lives of Ukrainians, Europeans and the whole world. We call for peaceful negotiations, we call for a return to the negotiating table in order to discuss the terms of resolving the Ukrainian crisis,” Geng Shuang emphasized.
