China made a sharp statement on Ukraine and Taiwan at the UN Security Council
The West demonstrates double standards, showing concern for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but at the same time questioning Taiwan's status as part of China.
Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the UN Geng Shuang stated this at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The crisis in Ukraine shows that only by observing the principles and objectives of the UN Charter will we achieve peace and development. Any deviation from these principles will only lead to conflict. As the legal basis of the current legal order, the UN Charter is unshakable. Compliance with the principles and objectives of the UN Charter must be consistent. Our actions must correspond to our words. We must not act selectively.
Some countries have repeatedly emphasized the principle of sovereignty in the case of Ukraine, while at the same time they have repeatedly questioned China's sovereignty over Taiwan and deliberately caused tension in the Taiwan Strait. This is disregard and violation of the principles and objectives of the UN Charter. China has always respected the sovereignty of other countries and hopes that our own sovereignty will be respected by others.
China resolutely defends its sovereignty. No one should underestimate the determination of more than a billion Chinese who are willing to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity. I hope everyone can see this clearly and not play with fire,” Gen Shuang warned.
