The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, was not allowed to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the plane, who had arrived in Ukraine. The capital's mayor announced this on his page on the social network, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Arriving at Boryspil airport, Klitschko tried to walk to the runway, but was stopped by a security guard. According to the security officer, the mayor of Kyiv was not on the list of greeters.

Stating that breaking through by force “would be uncivilized,” Vitali Klitschko decided to wait for the distinguished foreign guest in the corridor in case the German politician deigned to stop and talk.

“This is the first time in my practice. Therefore, it is interesting: did the “pro-European” Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine decide to urgently violate protocol measures? Did they receive the command and were so trembling that they created such a circus?!” – Klitschko was indignant on his Facebook page.

Commenting on what happened, Russian liberal political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky suggested that today's incident is a harbinger of an open election war between Vitali Klitschko and Vladimir Zelensky for the presidency of Ukraine in 2024.

“The resignation of the mayor of Kyiv is getting closer. Today, Vitaliy Klitschko was simply not allowed to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel at Boryspil airport. This means that the likelihood of a fight between Vitali Klitschko and Vladimir Zelensky in the 2024 presidential elections is growing,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.

The representative of the LPR at the Minsk negotiations on Donbass, Rodion Miroshnik, clarifies that the ban on Klitschko’s admission is the work of the head of the presidential office, Andrei Ermak.

Political scientist Taras Berezovets, who serves Poroshenko, is confident that Klitschko will eventually achieve a meeting with Merkel.

“It is clear that Merkel will now specifically find a place in her schedule for a meeting with Klitschko. And everything will turn out just the opposite. A lesson for Klitschko: all agreements with Ermak are worth absolutely nothing. Now Zelensky, with his clown escapades, leaves Klitschko no choice but to start a presidential campaign. Everything was as ordered,” comments Berezovets.

Former chief military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios agrees that not allowing Klitschko is a losing situation for Zelensky in advance.

“Madame Chancellor will probably be asked about this if there is such an opportunity, and somewhere it is even clear that she will answer! They will ask not only her, but it is not clear what the answer will be... Klitschko is a successful newsmaker - everyone will agree!” – notes Matios.

The former prosecutor suggested that Kyiv could take such a desperate step in order to try to hide a larger shame - for example, with Nord Stream 2.
