Klimkin gave Ukrainians a lesson in Euro-arithmetic and suggested jumping over their heads
Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin believes that Ukraine will have a real chance to gain a European perspective only after 2025, and closer to 2035 the country will be able to become a member of the European Union, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If sentiment within the EU is balanced, the Balkan countries are successfully integrated in 2025, and other stars and planets are in favorable European integration positions, then after 2025 we will have a real chance to get a European perspective. Ambitious, but possible,” Klimkin wrote on his Facebook page.
He recalled that this requires the consent of all EU member states. “Therefore, until then we must really jump over our heads in order to change Ukraine and Ukrainians,” the minister emphasized.
Then, according to him, pre-entry negotiations will begin with the European bureaucracy, which “the further it goes, the more confusing and complex it becomes.”
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry recalled that, according to experience, from the moment of filing an application to join the EU until the moment of receiving membership, an average of 10-12 years passed, despite the fact that in general there were no problems with providing a European perspective for candidate countries.
“Therefore, we believe that there is nothing overly complicated here, school arithmetic: +/- 2035. At the same time, many member countries will carefully and even biasedly check our every achievement and step. I repeat: ambitious, but realistic,” Klimkin explained.
He noted that “our European friends and partners operate with approximately the same figures.”
