Klimkin praises Zelensky for his tricks with NATO
Vladimir Zelensky, having stated the day before at a meeting with NATO leadership about the need to provide Kyiv with a membership action plan, in fact, updated Ukraine’s application to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin stated this on the Radio NV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It won't happen tomorrow. Now there is no consensus on Ukraine's accession to NATO... I like this funny, with an element of slyness, discussion about the action plan for membership. Some say: let us present a membership action plan at the (London) summit. This is important, but it will not speed up our movement in any way. Others say that we will not do this, because the logic is not to irritate anyone, especially Putin.
It is important for me that today in Zelensky’s speech the membership action plan was sounded... This is very important, it is very important for society to hear this,” Klimkin said.
In his opinion, Zelensky has actually “updated” his application to join NATO, which was first voiced by Viktor Yushchenko.
“There is a statement, it is valid. We didn't take her. But a lot happened after it. There were discussions here, inside Ukraine, during the Yanukovych years. Therefore, we cannot say that it does not need to be updated. It's worth doing.
She was voiced in Poroshenko’s speeches. It is important that President Zelensky repeated it,” Klimkin said.
