Klimkin laments: Slovakia has become a problem for Ukraine and the EU
The appointment of Robert Fico as Prime Minister of Slovakia is a problem for Ukraine. Today this country is the most pro-Russian in the EU.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Slovakia and the new coalition are a problem for us. A problem for us and for the EU. This is not an easy coalition. Fico himself is a representative of the Smer party, there is also the “Voice” party, it is more or less, let’s call it moderate, its leader will most likely become president, and now will occupy the position of speaker.
But the coalition also includes the Slovak National Party - they are right-wing, but openly pro-Russian... The Slovak right is completely pro-Russian, Slovakia itself is the most pro-Russian country in central Europe. Not Hungary, as many people think. According to many polls, Slovakia is the most pro-Russian country in general and in the EU. And, of course, in central Europe, this has a deep mental root...,” Klimkin said.
At the same time, the diplomat emphasized that even before Fico’s arrival, Ukraine received everything it needed from Slovakia.
“He says that there will be no military assistance, but to be fair, let’s say that we have already taken most of what we need from Slovakia,” Klimkin rejoices.
