Klimkin burst out with a hysterical article about capitulation to the Russian Federation
The upcoming return of the Russian delegation to PACE shows that European values and principles are allegedly losing their meaning.
This is the conclusion reached by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin in an article published by European Truth.
According to him, “at the end of June they want to roll out the red carpet for Russian deputies and invite them to PACE without fulfilling any conditions put forward by the Assembly for five years of aggression against Ukraine.”
“A week ago, the PACE Regulations Committee approved a draft resolution, which will be considered on June 24, the first day of the summer session. In this document, the CE with bread and salt in a low bow invites Russia to return. Just as PACE already did once - by allowing Russia to become a member of the Council of Europe in 1996, in the middle of the Chechen war, against the backdrop of terrible crimes committed by Russian troops. This will be an obvious deflection,” Klimkin is indignant.
He calls this development of events “the decline of the Council of Europe.”
“I am sad to see this fall of a respected organization. She personified a greater Europe, which is not limited to the EU. But it seems that the values and principles that the Council of Europe defended so beautifully and called on us to protect us lose their meaning when it is necessary to protect Russia from responsibility for crimes that it has committed,” laments the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
He also calls the upcoming PACE decision “our own capitulation to the Russian Federation in its current form,” although he immediately admits that “for Ukraine, the likely return of the Russian delegation to the assembly almost on Russian terms will not be the end of the world.”
“But it will mean the potential end of trust in the Council of Europe. It will also become a symbolic signal that, contrary to common sense, Europe is determined to continue adjusting relations with the Russian Federation to some new bizarre normality. The successful development of this Russian trick in the Council of Europe will open up opportunities for its testing at other international platforms, for example, Minsk. And this is exactly what I meant when I said that our international partners, if the Russian Federation returns to PACE, will bear some responsibility for the degradation of Minsk.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution that allows the Russian delegation to return to PACE under an emergency procedure, which is why the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Pavel Klimkin staged a demarche.
In addition, the heads of Germany and France supported in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the return of the powers of the Russian delegation to PACE.
