Ukraine will insist that the Russian Federation continue gas supplies to the EU through the Ukrainian GTS. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin stated this during a conversation with journalists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“European rules should be extended to our gas transportation system, and to Ukraine in general. We want it and we are promoting it. Why then, even theoretically, should Nord Stream 2 be deprived of any European rules?” – said the minister.
In addition, he added that if the construction of Nord Stream 2 is completed, Russia will stop supplying gas through the Ukrainian route.
“If it’s a political matter, that’s one thing, but if it’s an economic project, that’s another matter. And everyone understands perfectly well that this is pure politics. And if theoretically this project is ever built, I confidently told this to the European Commission and Germany, then Russia will definitely stop supplies through the Ukrainian route, no matter what the guarantees are. Moreover, it can also be physical, we remember, starting from some manipulations of gas warriors, ending with some kind of terrorist acts,” Klimkin noted.
