Klimkin intends to increase pressure on Russia
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry intends to increase diplomatic and political pressure on the Russian Federation “in connection with new arrests and repressions in Crimea,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced on Tuesday in Kyiv at a press conference “A new wave of political arrests in the occupied Crimea” by the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Maryana Betsa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website reports.
“On our part, we will, firstly, increase political pressure on Russia... Secondly, today our Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin will speak at a special meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to Ukraine, and we are already a non-permanent member of the Security Council, but thanks to our Polish colleagues , today there will be a special session of the UN Security Council, where the minister will speak out condemning Russian aggression and in order to show the terrible picture of repression in Crimea, recall some of the most resonant cases and call on our partners to increase pressure - diplomatic, political, including the list sanctions,” Betsa said.
“This looks most cynical against the backdrop of the order of the International Court of Justice in May, when Russia was supposed to provide information to the International Court of Justice on how it was implementing last year’s court decision to restore the activities of the Mejlis in the territory of occupied Crimea, and this indicates that the Russian Federation is defiantly ignoring any decisions and orders of the International Court of Justice,” Betza said.
