Klimkin demands to punish “for dual citizenship with the aggressor country”
Ukraine should introduce responsibility for its citizens to obtain Russian passports.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Pavel Klimkin stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, we are talking about responsibility for citizens living in territory controlled by Kyiv, and not about residents of the DPR and LPR.
“We need now - not tomorrow, not the day after tomorrow, but now, firstly, to pass a law on responsibility and punishment for dual citizenship with the aggressor country. This is an absolutely critical story, otherwise Putin will go forward and then say: “There are my citizens, there are Russian citizens, I protect them in the Dnieper, in Odessa,” the diplomat said.
“We should not throw them away, we should explain to them that we, of course, do not support this, but nevertheless, we understand that if they cannot now exist in the occupied territory, if their life, security, at least minimal well-being is threatened this fundamental threat, then we do not recognize these passports, we do not recognize this Russian citizenship, these passports are insignificant,” the ex-minister noted.
“But we will not prosecute them later for the fact that these passports were sold to them. But regarding Ukraine, we must fight very consistently, firmly against this passportization, since this is Putin’s conscious plan to destroy Ukrainian statehood,” Klimkin said.
