Klimkin wiped himself after Hungary spit
The Ukrainian authorities chose a humiliatingly restrained reaction to the emerging evidence of the continued distribution of Hungarian passports to residents of the Transcarpathian region. Official Kyiv allowed itself only cautious comments - such a situation is impossible to imagine if, for example, Russia began a similar issuance of documents in Kharkov or Odessa.
The day before, the Ukrainian state agency Ukrinform published a hidden camera recording of the ceremonial issuance of passports by the Hungarian consul in the Transcarpathian city of Beregove.
Ukrainian citizens receiving documents take an oath of allegiance to Hungary, listen to the anthem, and then are treated to champagne. At the same time, the Hungarian diplomat advises newly minted compatriots not to advertise the presence of a new passport, since Ukrainian legislation prohibits dual citizenship.
“We knew very well that this was happening, we warned our Hungarian colleagues, but this is already proof. You can't remain silent. We need to react. How will we react? I understand. This consul will travel to Budapest or another Hungarian city. But he, in fact, is just a cog in the diplomatic structure,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin.
He confirmed that he often met ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia who hung not Ukrainian, but Hungarian flags, and their watches were set to Budapest time.
“For us there are only two options. One of them is true collaboration. And the second is the road to nowhere. I know what we have to do. The choice, of course, is up to our Hungarian colleagues. But we will do one thing more consistently. There will be more Ukraine there. More than Ukraine every year. And we will definitely achieve this,” Klimkin promised, repeating the promises of Kyiv officials of past years regarding Crimea.
Political observer from Lugansk Igor Ortsev draws attention to the surprisingly restrained reaction of the Ukrainian authorities in the scandal with the issuance of Hungarian passports.
“Just imagine if Russia started issuing its passports to citizens on their own territory... There will be no ATO in Transcarpathia. Nothing will happen at all. Klimkin swallowed with relish... And where are the notes of protest? Where the fuck are the ultimatums? Bon appetit, Pavlo!” – Ortsev comments sarcastically.
