“Key partner and friend”: the new building of the Serbian Embassy in the USA is opened
In Washington on the evening of October 11, the new building of the Serbian Embassy in the United States was inaugurated.
The ribbon was cut by Ambassador of Serbia Marko Djuric and Special Envoy of the State Department to the Balkans Gabriel Escobar, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The opening of the new embassy is a testament to the ever-strengthening ties between our countries, and demonstrates our determination to expand these relations in many other areas of cooperation in the future,” Serbian Ambassador to the United States Marko Djuric said at the opening ceremony of the diplomatic mission.
The diplomat also read out a letter of welcome from Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
“The United States remains our constant partner and champions several key foreign policy priorities, including Serbia’s candidacy for EU membership and our commitment to peace and stability in the Balkan region,” Vucic said in the letter.
It also highlighted Washington's support for the Open Balkans Initiative and called the United States "a key partner and friend of Serbia."
In turn, Gabriel Escobar said:
“As we enter the 141st year of diplomatic relations between our two countries, I can say that these relations have never been better. “I hope that the opening of this embassy, as you said, in close proximity to the White House, also symbolizes a new beginning in bilateral history.”
From now on, the Serbian Embassy in the United States is located in its own building at 16th Street Washington, No. 1333, less than a kilometer from the White House. This is a historic building that was once the home of US Secretary of State and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elihu Root. Before that, for decades after the collapse of the former Yugoslavia, the Serbian embassy in the United States operated out of rented premises.
Also present at the embassy opening was Serbian First Lady Tamara Vucic, who recalled a quote from the National Museum of American Diplomacy that at its core, “diplomacy is about people, negotiations, building and maintaining relationships.”
“That is why it is important that we can welcome great people from the world of diplomacy to a new home in Washington, which will become a symbolic mirror of our country and our society,” she said.
Как reported "PolitNavigator", and in August 2022, Alexander Vucic said that the United States always supports its brainchild - Kosovo. The so-called “Republic of Kosovo” (according to UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Constitution of Serbia - the Serbian Autonomous Region of Kosovo and Metohija) unilaterally declared its independence in February 2008. It was immediately recognized by the USA and most EU countries.
