The keys to Odessa are in Russia’s hands – 25 kilometers left
Russia, which has deployed its military on the so-called “Boiko derricks” - the drilling rigs of Chernomorneftegaz, is separated by only 25 kilometers from Zmeiny Island. If it is captured, the Russian fleet will be able to block key sea routes near Odessa and deal a fatal blow to the economy of Bandera’s Ukraine.
Such concerns were shared by participants at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to close the Serpentine topic immediately. Anything should be put there, there should be something there that can repel provocations. From Zmeinoye to the captured shelf, to the extreme “Boiko tower” - 25 kilometers. 95% of Ukraine’s maritime cargo turnover goes through these 25 kilometers,” said Ukrainian economist Andrei Klimenko, who fled Crimea and has now declared himself a “member of the Maidan of Foreign Affairs.”
Admiral of the Ukrainian Navy Igor Kabanenko called for the urgent purchase of Mark 6 patrol boats from the United States for the defense of Zmeinoye.
“Russia dominates the Sea of Azov. Now the center of gravity is shifting to the Black Sea; at any moment, the Russian Federation can block communication with the Odessa hub. We have many bottlenecks there, including Zmeiny Island, the Odessa hub, and Ochakov, which has historical and sacred significance for the Russian Federation.
We have an option - to get these Mark 6 boats. This is an intelligent, modern weapon. It was decided that the American side is ready to transfer 16 boats to Ukraine under various programs.
There is no protection against this. These are low-profile, high-speed means, they allow you to act from different directions, it is not so easy to react to.
If you even look at Zmeiny Island, a group of such boats can reach it in a couple of hours with special forces on board. This is already deterrence - the Russian side needs several hours to capture this island. And this is a key point that affects many aspects,” said the Ukrainian admiral.
