The coalition agreement horrified specialists - Ukraine’s energy sector is being prepared for scrap (VIDEO)
Kyiv, November 26 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – Kyiv’s refusal of Donbass coal could lead to Ukraine ultimately losing its status as an electricity supplier.
This forecast was voiced at a press conference in Kyiv by Valentin Zemlyansky, director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

He noted that the coalition agreement talks about the closure of unprofitable mines.
“That is, the issue of Ukrainian coal miners is no longer particularly on the agenda,” the expert believes. – This will be followed by a reduction in the volume of generation, including state generation. We understand that when producing goods, money goes to the country’s budget, and when importing, it goes to the budget of another state. And it is far from a fact that imported supplies will become cheaper than electricity that would be produced on the territory of Ukraine. We become completely dependent on the Russian Federation for energy supplies. Please note that against this background, an agreement on the supply of Russian fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants for 2015-2016 was concluded absolutely calmly and without any problems. “All this happened very quietly, unnoticed, but nevertheless the fact is obvious.”
For Ukraine, all this, says Valentin Zemlyansky, is fraught with the loss of its status as an electricity exporter.
“By replacing its own generation with imported electricity, Ukraine can turn into a transit country,” warns the director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. – It is possible that Ukraine may face such a fate when it turns from a player and a subject into a subject, which happened at one time with Ukrainian oil refining. Let’s say, ten years ago, none of the oil workers would have believed that Ukraine today would be 80 percent dependent on the import of petroleum products.”
