Only Nord Stream 2 keeps Russia from full-scale military aggression against Ukraine, so preventing its construction is a matter of protecting not only the income of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, but also Europe.
Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andrey Kobolev stated this at the 15th Annual Meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) “Future Generation of Everything,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From our point of view, Nord Stream 2 is a broader issue than gas. It concerns the security of Ukraine. It is no exaggeration to say that for us it is a matter of survival. If we don’t have gas transit, then we are sure that this will be an open door for Russia’s full-fledged military aggression against Ukraine. This is a question not only of money, not only of the income of Naftogaz or Ukraine, but also a question of security, and not only ours, but that of the entire European Union. Now Ukraine is between Russia and the EU. We are fighting for our independence, trying to protect ourselves. But we also defend the EU at the same time. If we are not there as an element of this protection, then it will not be beneficial to anyone,” he said.
