Kobolev faces return of bonus for victory over Gazprom
The head of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, Andrey Kobolev, is sabotaging negotiations with Gazprom on extending the contract for gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, since if they take place, he will have to return the bonus that he wrote out for himself for winning over Gazprom in the Stockholm arbitration.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert recalled that Kobolev, in his own words, transferred several million dollars of the bonus to his mother abroad.
“The Russian side is considering a settlement agreement between Naftogaz and Gazprom regarding these $2,4 billion in penalties imposed by the Stockholm Arbitration as a subject for settling relations with Kiev. Obviously, if Nord Stream 2 is not completed by January 2020, the transit agreement may be extended. As the Russian energy minister says, in its current form it can be extended for a short period, perhaps for a year.
This problem is not solved, it is postponed. Naftogaz’s position in this case is known. From Kobolev’s point of view, if there is a settlement agreement with Gazprom, this means that he will have to transfer back and pay the $8 million that he wrote out for himself as a bonus, since these $8 million are from lost income,” Rudyakov said .
