Donbass is ready to remain part of Ukraine, but subject to receiving “a certain status,” said artist and politician Joseph Kobzon in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“Donbass does not want to move away from Ukraine. But he wants respect, he wants to determine his status in Ukraine. If the new Ukrainian rulers come to their senses and grant a certain status to Donbass, it will live and work in complete peace,” Kobzon said.

“Donbass cannot be considered as two separate republics – Donetsk and Lugansk. We need to consider them as a big Donbass,” he clarified.

“Even such a negative person as Nadezhda Savchenko, even she is inclined to the idea that we need to sit down at the negotiating table with the hope of some kind of consensus,” Kobzon noted.
