Flirty dictator: Lukashenko complained to Pompeo about unnamed enemies
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko deliberately flaunted his nickname “the last dictator of Europe” when meeting today in Minsk with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
“Our dictatorship is different in that everyone rests on Saturday, and the president works,” Lukashenko said, shaking the American diplomat’s hand.
He continued the theme of dictatorship during the negotiations.
“It’s very good that after various kinds of misunderstandings in relations between Belarus and the United States, absolutely groundless misunderstandings of the past authorities, you took the risk of coming to Minsk and looking at this country: what kind of people are here, what kind of people are here, what kind of dictatorship is this, what kind of democracy is here, a lot of it - a little of it and so on,” Lukashnko said.
At the same time, he burst into an angry tirade against some enemies. Lukashenko did not say where these enemies were, but from the context it was clear that they were not in the West.
“Enemies and foes joked, mocked, acted like fools. They wrote a lot about you and me. The topic was very sensitive. I think in the West too,” Lukashenko said.
