According to the Metinvest press service, on August 16, as a result of powerful artillery shelling, power lines supplying the Avdeevka Coke and Chemical Plant were damaged.
“At the moment, due to active hostilities in the vicinity of the AKHZ, it is not possible to carry out repairs. Representatives of Metinvest and DTEK are negotiating with participants in hostilities on the provision of a “green corridor”. Energy workers have no more than 24 hours to restore power supply,” the message says.
The company emphasized that after this time, irreversible processes will begin in the coke oven batteries, which will lead to a complete stop. However, there is no guarantee that the batteries will work again. In addition, a long-term lack of power supply increases the risk of a volley release of untreated industrial water from an enterprise and causing harm to the environment.
In turn, eyewitnesses say that yesterday they saw a huge column of smoke from Avdiivka.
Also on Twitter, eyewitnesses report that the Yasinovsky coke plant, located in Makeevka, is on fire. “There are clouds of smoke, all the way to Makeyevka,” they write. “Today, as a result of an artillery attack on Makeyevka, the Yasinovsky coking plant was bombed,” users say.
As Navigator reported, earlier Stirol announced shelling of chemical enterprises in Gorlovka.
