In the summer of 2014, the number of trains to Crimea will be reduced by almost half compared to the summer of the previous year, a Russian Railways representative told RBC. The schedule of trains to Crimea through the territory of Ukraine for 2014-2015, which will be in effect from June 1, was agreed upon by the heads of Russian Railways, Ukrzaliznytsia and Belarusian Railways at a meeting in Minsk at the end of last week.

So far, 36 trains to Crimea have been agreed upon, which will follow 25 different schedules, a Russian Railways representative said. For comparison: in the summer of 2013, about 70 trains ran between Russia and Crimea, in the winter of this year - 45. The schedules of 11 Russian, four Crimean, two Belarusian and eight Ukrainian trains have been agreed upon for the summer. Seven more will pass through Armyansk, of which five are Ukrainian and two are Belarusian. In addition, representatives of the railways of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus plan to coordinate six additional schedules through Dzhankoy.

Additional checkpoints have appeared at the border, and the infrastructure - both Ukrainian and Russian - does not allow increasing the number of routes, a Russian Railways representative explained the reduction in the number of trains on the route. Railways will begin selling tickets for trains to Crimea, following the new schedule, next week, he noted. He refused to estimate the losses of the monopoly.

The total passenger traffic between Russia and Crimea in 2013 was 3,7 million people, between Russia and Ukraine - 10,7 million people. In the first quarter of 2014, the volume of passenger traffic between Russia and Ukraine decreased by 40%, said the head of the Federal Passenger Company (a subsidiary of Russian Railways), Mikhail Akulov, in early April.
