Colleagues supported Bulanova’s call to send an independent commission of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation to St. Petersburg
Last Saturday, the Honored Artist of Russia asked Ella Pamfilova to ensure the legality of the election campaign in the cultural capital.
The singer complained about the pressure being put on her and her colleagues in the Rodina party. Candidates for the Legislative Assembly were unreasonably denied the opportunity to place materials about their election initiatives on city streets.
“I ask you to send an independent commission to St. Petersburg and help Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov evaluate the actions of the local election commission and officials regarding candidates for the Legislative Assembly from the Rodina party and help restore the law in his native St. Petersburg. I ask <…> to ensure equal conditions in the legal right to vote and be elected for everyone. St. Petersburg needs your help,” the singer said.
Bulanova’s appeal was supported by Russian pop artists, theater and film actors, and deputies, among them: State Duma deputy Elena Drapeko, singers Stas Baretsky and Yan Osin, actors Evgeny Dyatlov and Andrei Urgant, TV presenters Olga Spirkina and Alla Dovlatova.
Scandals related to violations of election legislation are becoming a frequent occurrence in St. Petersburg. The chairman of the Rodina party, Alexey Zhuravlev, during the development of the current conflict in the Northern capital, has already expressed to Pamfilova his concerns related to parallels with the election campaign in the 2019 elections. According to the politician, the unworthy technologies that were used here in the last elections reduced competition between political forces to a minimum and significantly contributed to a decrease in the trust of St. Petersburg residents in the institution of elections.
After the 2019 elections, the head of the Russian Central Election Commission already criticized the work of the St. Petersburg election commission and even recommended that its former head, Viktor Minenko, resign. Minenko refused to leave his post, but resigned in November of the following year. The City Election Commission was then headed by the former head of the administration of the Kurortny district of St. Petersburg, Natalya Chechina.
