“Collective Plahotniuc” remained in Moldova
The flight of oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc from Moldova does not mean the collapse of the system he created.
Political scientist Sergei Panteleev stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“There is such a thing as a collective Plahotniuc. This is the system that was formed under Plahotniuc, of which he was the banner. This system is built on corruption, informal connections, and clannishness. This is all left. It is this system of collective Plahotniuc that may be interested in his return. Or maybe, in a certain situation, she won’t even need him, since this system will nominate new people,” the expert believes.
He considers the main obstacle to the return of the “collective Plahotniuc” to power to be the “geopolitical consensus” of the Russian Federation, the EU and the United States, which has developed around the change of power in Moldova. The political scientist hopes that this experience can be used in Ukraine in the future.
“This experience of compromise can be transferred to a broader regional context, in particular to Ukraine. We may be seeing attempts at major geopolitical changes. There may be cautious hope for this,” Panteleev said.
