Kolomoisky called on Zelensky to send the IMF to hell
The new President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, must follow the example of Greece and reject the program of the International Monetary Fund or go into default on the external debt, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This point of view was expressed by Ukrainian businessman Igor Kolomoisky in an interview with the Financial Times entitled “Ukrainian oligarch calls on Vladimir Zelensky to default on debt.”
“In my opinion, we should treat our creditors the same way as Greece. This is an example for Ukraine,” Kolomoisky said.
In 2015, Athens clashed with its creditors and became the first developed country to default on an IMF loan, albeit temporarily.
Ukraine needs IMF loans to service its external debt, which amounts to about 60% of the country's gross domestic product, the publication writes. With payments expected to peak this year and next, Kolomoisky also suggested Ukraine has nothing to fear if it fails to meet its obligations.
“How many times has Argentina defaulted?... So they restructured it. Everything is fine,” Kolomoisky added.
