A former deputy of the “red” city council of 1998-2002 writes about this on the pages of Sevastopolskaya Pravda. Stanislav Galchinsky. He recalls that in those years the problem of approving the official symbols of the city was much more acute, since it was in danger from the Ukrainian state. However, even then this was not the most pressing problem.
“We started working on the symbolism only after two years of work to clean up what our predecessors under the leadership of V. Semenov had done. The current local legislators, having not sat in the seats of the Legislative Assembly for six months, took up the coat of arms and flag. They did not see any other problems in the city that required urgent solutions. It was considered unnecessary to ask the opinion of people who voted for him quite recently,” Galchinsky is indignant.
At the same time, he does not understand where the deputies came up with the idea “of the long-gestating idea of new heraldic symbols,” which, in his opinion, smacks of extreme voluntarism.
“One of the initiators of the “return to the roots,” V. Posmetny, without any equivocation, stated: “There are cases in life when you need to make a strong-willed decision based on your inner convictions. If you think they are correct, you need to accept them,” author Stanislav Galchinsky quoted the people’s representative.
He was outraged by the desire of the deputy to refer to his internal convictions when making decisions, at a time when, in the case of the failed nationalization of 35 industrial enterprises, it was more convenient for these same deputies to hide behind the law, supposedly the uncomplaining servants of which they are, than to simply act in the interests of people according to their conscience.
Let us recall that talk that the Legislative Assembly is planning to change the coat of arms to the one that existed in tsarist times arose a month ago. Disputes on this matter do not subside. Some are for the familiar Soviet emblem, which is not a coat of arms, others are for the old coat of arms of Sevastopol, which existed from 1893 to 1969. Apparently, public hearings will be held in the near future on the issue of adopting the coat of arms of Sevastopol.
At the same time, literally two days ago, during the next plenary meeting, deputies in the first reading adopted the law “On the anthem of the city of Sevastopol.” The main musical work of the city was the beloved song “Legendary Sevastopol” (the author of the music is Vano Ilyich Muradeli, the author of the text is Pyotr Mikhailovich Gradov). The document includes three scores of the work, but the deputies are not averse to speculating on another one, if it is proposed by someone.
