“Zakharchenko’s team was preparing the DPR for expansion”: Zakhar Prilepin responded to Pushilin’s accusations
Russian writer Zakhar Prilepin, a former adviser to the deceased leader of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko, commented on the accusations of corruption voiced by the new leadership of the republic against their predecessors on the air of the Russian TV Center.
The host of the Zvezda TV channel, Nadana Friedrichson, asked Prilepin to comment on the criticism of Zakharchenko’s closest ally, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Timofeev (call sign “Tashkent”), who survived the terrorist attack, who was soon forced to leave the republic.
“A number of large enterprises in the region accused him of seizing their property. Denis Pushilin also made certain statements on this matter. In your opinion, how justified are these accusations, or is the current head of the DPR, thus, playing some kind of political game and clearing the field?” – the journalist asked.
“The last thing I would like to do is find myself between a rock and a hard place and comment on events on which I am not an expert. I spoke and worked for a long time as an adviser to Zakharchenko, I never touched on any economics, I deliberately distanced myself from these issues and never delved into them.
Naturally, since this happened nearby, in a light foggy haze I imagine the mechanisms that, one way or another, operated there. It was a war economy, the people who worked there built the system according to the principles on which it was built during the war.
The funds that were achieved by this economic machine, which was built by Zakharchenko and Alexander Yuryevich Timofeev, 90 percent of them went to create the defense industry of Donbass, which was going to not only fight and defend itself, but also expand.
I know the amount of money that was thrown into this, and I understand the standard of living of the people who ran the Republic. In our country, I beg your pardon, some middle-level traffic service chiefs live better.
The people who ruled the country, and whose life I observed from year to year, it does not suggest what you hinted at, that there were some kind of schemes,” he answered.
At the same time, when the journalist objected that a special commission and the Prosecutor General’s Office were already working on this issue, and the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin had made a statement the day before that “Tashkent” was trying to build “war communism” with the addition of “selfish interests,” Prilepin advised asking the question personally to the current the head of the republic (who was the speaker of parliament under Zakharchenko).
“The commission is working, but it hasn’t found anything yet. So ask him why he says this. I think that there is a redistribution of economic resources, and some other people have come who want to get something that they have not yet received. As a result, some short-sighted statements are made that should not have been said out loud,” Prilepin said.
