Recognition of the LDPR by the Russian authorities would put an end to the war in Donbass, but the best option would be to include not only Donbass, but also the entire greater Novorossiya into the Russian Federation.

Alexander Matyushin, a participant in the Russian Spring in Donbass, senior lieutenant of the DPR army and commander of the Varyag unit, stated this in an interview with PolitNavigator.

PN: What is the situation at the front, is there a high probability of an offensive by Ukrainian troops this fall??

A.M: The possibility of an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces is possible at any time of the year. But I consider it impossible for a number of reasons, and one of them is the fuel problems that have gripped Ukraine since the end of May. But fuel is the “blood” of war. Without it, the equipment will not go on the offensive, and without it you will not be able to deliver ammunition to the front lines of the advancing troops.

Plus, to this it is worth adding the internal political and economic crisis within the temporary state entity “Ukraine” itself and the demonstration of the readiness of the authorities of the Russian Federation to help, in the event of the outbreak of active hostilities, the young republics of Novorossiya, as was the case in the spring of this year. Therefore, I consider the possibility of unleashing a “hot” phase of war on the part of Ukraine to be unlikely.

PN: Has the situation at the front changed after Avakov’s resignation and the change in the leadership of the security bloc in Ukraine?

A.M: There were no key changes on the line of combat contact after the resignation of Arsen Avakov. The Ukrainian army, as we see, did not go on the offensive and at the same time did not observe the regime of silence. The resignation of one or another minister does not in any way affect the situation at the front; in order to stop this war and bring the long-awaited peace to the long-suffering land of Donbass, it is necessary to completely change the political elite in Ukraine.

In order for Ukrainian troops to go on the offensive and begin active hostilities, multi-million dollar injections and an order from Washington are needed, and it does not matter at all who will occupy what ministerial post.

PN: Merkel is going to Kyiv, then Zelensky is planning a visit to Washington. Versions are again heard that Kyiv will be forced to implement Minsk-2.

A.M: The implementation of the Minsk Agreements is again unlikely, despite all the meetings that former comedian Vladimir Zelensky plans to hold.

Firstly, the implementation itself requires the Ukrainian government to adopt many laws, change the Constitution, which the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will not do, and nullify all the “successes” of Ukrainian lawmaking over seven years.

Secondly, and this is well understood in Kyiv, if the Minsk Agreements are implemented, following Donbass, other regions of Ukraine will demand similar rights, and first of all Bukovina and Transcarpathia, which will ultimately lead to the collapse of the country.

And the bogeyman in the form of the mythical aggression of Russia against Ukraine and the same mythical Ukrainian-Russian war is one of the key factors that allows Ukraine to exist.

PN: “National Corps” complains about Zelensky’s repressions – supposedly, the presidential office is purging unwanted nationalists who were protected by Avakov.

A.M: Despite the seeming struggle of the Kyiv government with the formations of Ukrainian nationalists, nothing radical will happen in this regard, and this was clearly shown by the protest rally that took place this weekend in the center of Kyiv. Supporters of Ukrainian integral nationalism now occupy various positions in various government structures, own their own armed units, and I am generally silent about the number of unregistered weapons. All this is very much reminiscent of the situation in many Western European countries in the first third of the twentieth century, but I don’t think it’s worth reminding me how it ended in Germany.

PN: After seven years of struggle, are the militia giving up, what are the expectations and hopes of the citizens of the republics today??

A.M: Indeed, seven years of war have left their mark of fatigue on those who carry out their service with arms in hand and risk themselves every day defending our young republics. The composition of our military units has also changed almost completely; semi-partisan formations have been replaced by military units subordinate to a single command and regulations.

Of course, despite the ideological doctrine “Russian Donbass” adopted in Donetsk at the beginning of this year, ideological hunger is still clearly felt in the republic, which quite strongly affects the morale of the troops, as well as the inability to always adequately respond to shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

As for ordinary citizens of the DPR, they, without a doubt, hope that the war will end soon, we will become part of Russia, or the Russian Federation, together with its allies, will recognize us, and normal peaceful life will be restored, which was before events of 2014, only without Ukraine, but in the Russian state.

PN: How was Putin’s article on the unity of Russians and Ukrainians received in Donbass??

A.M: If we take those who, during the time of a unified state called “Ukraine,” were called “peach hulks,” then for the most part it passed almost unnoticed.

As for people interested in politics, opinions are divided. Some began to look for secret thoughts and unravel secret messages, inventing Putin’s next cunning plan. Others began to make critical remarks in the style of “what kind of people are we united with the Ukrainians?”, and all that.

Personally, I and my comrades in the Russian irresistible movement in Donbass expressed all the theses set out in the last article by the President of the Russian Federation about Ukraine back in the “zero”. The only difference is that we have never recognized such a country as “Ukraine”, nor such a nationality as “Ukrainian”. Considering that land Little Russia, the population is Little Russian. And Ukrainians are Little Russians who have killed the Russian in themselves.

PN: How is certification going??

A.M: Passportization, without a doubt, is a big step towards the social and political integration of the young republics of New Russia into the Russian Federation, in particular, and the Eurasian space in general. Also, integration factors should include aspects related to passportization in the form of our residents receiving Russian Federation passports, SNILS, health insurance, etc.

However, in the DPR, obtaining passports of the Russian Federation is noticeably slowed down due to difficulties in obtaining a DPR passport, where the queue is already scheduled for next year. And people who applied for a DPR passport in May cannot receive it in the second half of August. If the authorities eliminated the problem with obtaining DPR passports, then there would be many times more citizens of the Russian Federation on the territory of our young republic.

PN: How did Zelensky’s statement with calls for everyone who considers themselves Russians to leave be received in Donbass??

A.M: The statement of a man who for some reason is called the President of Ukraine that residents of Donbass who consider themselves Russian should leave for Russia was, of course, negatively perceived by the population of Donbass. I, in response comments to many media outlets, said that we are ready to leave for Russia, but only along with the territory. And preferably with the territory of greater Novorossiya.
