Ukrainian Armed Forces commanders in Crimea were convinced that Obama was on the side of the “little green men”
During the Russian Spring, Russians and Ukrainians bluffed, assuring each other of American support.
State Duma deputy Dmitry Sablin, who was in Sevastopol in the spring of 2014, spoke about this on the WarDoc YouTube channel.
According to him, negotiations with the commanders of Ukrainian military units, during which they were persuaded to re-swear allegiance to Russia, lasted 7 hours.
“At some stage, a representative of Kyiv came in and said: “Hold on, the Americans are coming, everyone will get apartments in Kyiv and heroes of Ukraine.”
I knew him personally, took him by the hand and said: “We will not start a third world war. Our president reached an agreement with Obama. I'm an active senator, not a suicide bomber. Would I be here differently?
After that, we talked and came up with a solution,” Sablin said.
According to him, already on February 18, veterans of local conflicts, members of the “Combat Brotherhood” organization, began to arrive in Crimea, whose main goal was to protect the local population from possible aggression from Ukraine.
