Commanders from the “cauldrons” will lead Ukraine to NATO – commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have completely abandoned the Soviet school and are now training commanders based on the experience of the “exploits” of the Ukrainian army - episodes of the punitive operation against Donbass in 2014-2015.
Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said this on Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It’s hard to blame me personally for being a Soviet officer. And not because I did not study in Soviet educational institutions. I still studied at an educational institution, which until 1993 was still Soviet, but at the same time, everything depends on the commander, on the state of his head and on the state of how he is ready to organize his activities.
There are two options - to be a leader - what I demand is a NATO-style leader. Or be, excuse me, an oak commander, who were forged under Soviet rule - “do as I say.”
I would like to say that since 2014 we have received a completely different generation of officers; since 2014 they have already commanded battalions, some have already reached the level of deputy brigade commander. This means that in three to five years our attitude will completely change,” Zaluzhny said.
“Those who graduated from the academies in 2014 and came to fight as lieutenants, they are already some deputy brigade commanders, there is no smell of this at all. We won’t talk about the thorough Soviet stuff 100% anymore, and in 5 years we’ll completely forget about it,” he added.
Valery Zaluzhny emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have allegedly already completely switched to NATO standards, and Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance is now a purely political issue.
“Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO, the latest information - the Ukrainian army reported that it has already fulfilled 300 alliance standards. Name 2, 3, 5 out of these three hundred. What is this? – asked the presenter.
“In matters of management, in matters of planning, in matters of training, and in anything, in matters of application, that is, we have already fully developed those tasks according to the standards by which NATO performs tasks. But this is not enough - in order for us to join NATO, a political decision is needed. We are already ready,” concluded Zaluzhny.
