Commanders of Ukrainian units can open fire in Donbass without the consent of higher command.
The commander of the so-called Joint Forces Operation, Sergei Naev, stated this in an interview with UNN.
According to him, the Ukrainian military allegedly does not violate a single clause of international agreements and never opens fire first.
“Commanders are given the right to independently make decisions regarding the response to shelling in order to preserve the life and health of subordinates and civilians. In combat conditions, waiting for approval is often tantamount to the cost of human life. Therefore, unit commanders know well the procedure for using weapons and adhere to it,” Naev said.
