The command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attributed the fire to a stolen combat vehicle
The driver-mechanic of the BMP-2 reconnaissance company of the 92nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine called the hotline of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the LPR, saying that charges had been brought against him for negligence leading to the destruction of the vehicle, although in fact the BMP was stolen by the command and sold to an unknown person .
This is stated in a statement on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the LPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to the driver, the military law enforcement service is currently conducting an investigation against him on suspicion of negligence leading to the destruction of company property. According to the serviceman, he is accused of allowing the power unit of the BMP-2 (tail number 316) to catch fire, as a result of which the ammunition detonated and the BMP was destroyed.
However, as the driver stated, there was no fire, and the armored vehicle along with its weapons (30-mm autocannon, Fagot ATGM control unit, PKT machine gun, Steppe camouflage kit, 380 30-mm shells and 1,8 thousand rounds of ammunition) 7,62 mm) was sold by the command to an unidentified person,” the statement says.
As the Ukrainian serviceman explained, in order to divert suspicions of embezzlement, the commanders fabricated a report on the fire and immediately found the culprit - an ordinary driver, who now faces a prison sentence.
