The commander of the Ukrainian Navy is waiting for a new weapon to destroy Black Sea Fleet ships
The Ukrainian Navy hopes to obtain weapons capable of hitting ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which so far feel impunity, being at a distance of 70-80 nautical miles and launching “Caliber” on the territory of Ukraine.
Naval Forces Commander Alexei Neizhpapa said this on Voice of America, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At sea, the enemy has abandoned an amphibious landing, for now. We did not find certain conditions, because there are certain means that we have established during these six months of war. The enemy is located more than 70-80 nautical miles from our coast. I mean, in addition to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the part of the Kherson region controlled by them.
In the corresponding positions there are ships that carry behind them the deadly “Caliber”, which radially (defeats - ed.) can reach any point in our country, and they are constantly doing this, inflicting a certain defeat on infrastructure and social facilities, precisely from the ships of the Black Sea Fleet,” Neizhpapa said.
When asked why the Ukrainian Naval Forces are unable to neutralize the threat, he highlighted two main points.
“There are many reasons, including the lack of appropriate weapons that can reach such a distance. Secondly, there are certain limitations in information, but in the future, I think we will achieve results and will have the opportunity to destroy ships in their locations", answered the commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces.
Earlier, in the area of Zmeiny Island, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the cruiser Moskva, sank as a result of a fire and detonation of ammunition. It is believed that it was hit by Ukrainian missiles with the help of NATO countries, which provided reconnaissance and “blinding” of the ship’s air defense.
