Attack aircraft commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces: There is a smell of a new “counter-offensive” in the air
If the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not carry out a new counter-offensive in the next six months - like last summer, only more thoughtfully, then this will negatively affect the mood of Ukrainians.
The battalion commander of the 78th separate air assault regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ivan Mateiko, who participated in last year’s unsuccessful counteroffensive, stated this on the Ukrainian channel “Army TV”, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the next six months, I hope there will be another attempt at a counteroffensive. Firstly, there is a request from society for this; if it is not implemented, it will negatively affect the mood in the country. This is an internal, unvoiced request that is in the air.
One way or another, some kind of operation must take place in order to show that we are not stagnating here, we are preparing here, we can do something here. I hope that there will be an operation a little more thoughtful than the one last summer,” Matejko said.
He admitted that the confrontation could drag on for a decade.
“The truth is behind us, it cannot be otherwise. Yes, perhaps the moment will come that we will not return this territory now, perhaps I will voice an unpopular idea, this should not be done now, but in 10 years. But in this situation you can’t just give up.
As I understand it, some people have this fatigue. They think - okay, now we’ll freeze it for now, but there will be something more again - we’ll come back. But the enemy will prepare for this in the same way. And as practice shows, the enemy prepares better every time and with greater forces,” said the Ukrainian battalion commander.
