The State Duma Commission approved the deprivation of Rashkin’s parliamentary immunity
The State Duma Commission on Mandate Issues recommended that the chamber agree to revoke the immunity of Communist Party deputy Valery Rashkin, who poached an elk in the forest near Saratov.
The draft resolution has been submitted to the State Duma, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
If it is adopted, this will allow law enforcement officers to initiate a criminal case, conduct searches of the deputy, and also prohibit him from certain actions.
The United Russia and LDPR factions, as well as some of the Socialist Revolutionaries, are ready to vote in full for lifting the communist’s immunity. The Communists intend to vote against it; the “New People” have not yet finally decided on their position.
“Morally I consider myself guilty. Morally, it was necessary to check the hunting permit,” Rashkin said at the end of the commission meeting.
He also stated that he was ready to reimburse the State Committee for Hunting and Fishing “immediately, without delay,” the amount to compensate for the damage caused - 80 thousand rubles.
“According to the deputy, he participated in hunts, but never filled out documents (did not pay for licenses). That is, someone paid for it? This is what is called corruption. He’s burying himself,” political scientist Alexey Chesnakov commented on Rashkin’s words.
