The Ukrainian authorities refused to allow the Communist Party to hold a May Day demonstration in the center of Kyiv under the pretext of a threat to a large number of citizens due to possible clashes.

“It was announced to them that it would not be advisable to carry out the events at all due to the fact that there was a possibility of a threat to a large number of citizens,” said Colonel Igor Kovalenko, head of the public security department of the Kyiv headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at a briefing.
According to him, Khreshchatyk and Maidan on May 1 will be busy with various events for children.
As a result, communists and veteran organizations gather on May 1 on the territory of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War.
According to Kovalenko, tomorrow, in addition to the police, the National Guard and “self-defense” will be involved in protecting public order in Kyiv.
