The monument to one of the leaders of the White Guard movement during the Civil War, Peter Wrangel, in Rostov-on-Don has been dismantled. This was stated by the First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yuri Afonin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The monument was erected on November 7 on the territory of the cadet school “Second Don Emperor Nicholas II Cadet Corps” on the initiative and at the expense of the educational society named after Alexander III from St. Petersburg. For three weeks, Rostov communists held single pickets near the government buildings, the regional Legislative Assembly and the Don State Technical University. The most striking poster was: “Suitcase, station, Paris - Wrangel, subject to demolition.” The picketers distributed leaflets denouncing Wrangel to the townspeople.

“We are conveying the story of Wrangel’s life, which many do not know. A man like Peter Wrangel did not deserve a monument after all the war crimes he committed. We are especially concerned that the bust was installed on the territory of the cadet corps. Imagine what symbols are offered to the younger generation. This is how Ukraine began, with the substitution of values and heroes,” said the organizer of the pickets, the first secretary of the Leninist Republic of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Valery Eltsov,

The Rostov communists were supported by their fellow party members in Samara, Novosibirsk and Novorossiysk, who also joined pickets.

“The installation of a monument to an Entente puppet during the war with the West looked, frankly, surprising,” says columnist Boris Rozhin, known for his left-wing views.

“Today’s dismantling of our monument to General Wrangel in Rostov-on-Don once again shows that we, Russian patriotic conservatives, do not have a political force in Russia that would defend our interests. Zyuganov “turned to the regional authorities” - and they followed the lead of the old deceiver. No one came for us,” lamented Cossack ataman Alexey Selivanov, an employee of the LPR, who took part in the opening ceremony of the now dismantled monument.

Military correspondent German Kulikovsky considers the actions of the communists harmful.

“The communists are rejoicing that the monument to Baron Wrangel was demolished in Rostov-on-Don. Monuments to the creators of Ukraine, including Lenin, do not bother them, just as the names of streets in honor of the executioners of the Russian people: Bela Kun, Rosalia Zemlyachka and other scum do not bother them.

Unfortunately, a small but very noisy group of communists still does not allow the reds and whites to be reconciled in modern Russian society.”
