Russia plans to build at least 10 nuclear reactors in India over the next two decades, writes Financial Times. India is considering revising its agreement with France for the supply of fighter jets, as the latter has shown itself to be a biased and politically biased trading partner.

“Today we have outlined ambitious plans in nuclear energy,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a joint press conference with Vladimir Putin in New Delhi.

At a time of Russia's growing economic isolation from the West, Putin is strengthening relations with emerging markets. India, for its part, does not join Western sanctions and refrains from any assessment of the events in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.

Russia has already built the first 1000-megawatt unit at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in southern India, which will increase the country's nuclear power output by one-fifth. The reactor has already been put into operation, another will start operating next year, and two more will follow. The agreement specifies, writes the Financial Times, that both sides will strive to “minimize the overall cost and time of construction of nuclear power units.”

Prime Minister Modi said that “Russia will remain our most important defense partner.” Russia will also produce one of its helicopter models in India. The Indian military has announced that it will reconsider relations with France due to the failed contract for the supply of Mistrals, since India itself has signed an agreement for the supply of French fighters and is afraid of the failure of the agreements. France has shown itself to be an unreliable partner, the Indians believe, and are demanding additional guarantees from the French.

Among the 20 documents signed during Putin's one-day visit to India were several related to cooperation in the oil and gas sector, including one providing for a joint study for the possible construction of a Russia-India gas pipeline.
