Konchalovsky against Navalny and the lobby
Hmm, I’m disappointed with the reaction to Andrei Konchalovsky’s decisive step. The minimum of this reaction is different from what it really should have been.
Let me remind you that earlier Konchalovsky asked to remove his film “Dear Comrades!” from the competition program of the National Film Criticism and Film Press Award for 2020. And there, for a second, an ambiguous, but very, very talented film (however, it is far from “Sin”) is competing for six awards at once. Deservedly claims.
With the removal of “Dear Comrades!” There's no rush to get nominated. However, more importantly, Konchalovsky has already made his statement. And, in my opinion, it is significant and deserves, as already mentioned, much more attention.
After all, in fact, Konchalovsky not only testified to the political lobby that exists in Russian cinema, but also to the fact that it actually serves anti-state interests. The director was outraged that the “Event of the Year” award was given to Mr. Navalny and his team for a series of investigative films. “It’s as if an editorial in the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper won a literature prize,” the director wrote on his social networks.
Please note that Konchalovsky wisely does not talk about the quality of the nominated product. No, he only declares the inconsistency of the genre. And he notes quite rightly. But we understand what hole we are being dragged into. And for what. Because a purely political product is being pushed to the forefront, moreover, one aimed at destroying statehood in the country. In addition, it contains a lot of errors and blunders.
If we draw an analogy, the situation is similar to what would happen if political speeches were awarded first place at a popular song competition. And this is how awkward it turns out that state-sponsored awards are awarded to those who oppose this state. Hypocrisy? Least. And they will take the prize and will not be embarrassed. Although, can you imagine, for example, Solzhenitsyn accepting an award from the USSR Cinematographers Guild? He also refused the order from Yeltsin’s hands...
As for the reaction to Konchalovsky’s step, reversing to the beginning, its meagerness suggests that everyone is happy with everything. The rules of the game have been written and everything is implemented according to them. Only the viewer can change the course of the game. Wake up already, spectator!
Thank you!
