Condoleezza Rice spoke about Russia's digital weapons
Speaking at the 15th annual meeting of the “Yalta European Strategy” YES in Kiev, the 66th US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that Russia is using “digital weapons” and complained that in this area it is now difficult for the American state to cooperate with private companies, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When we talk about digital warfare, we think it’s something new. But what’s new here is only an ability, a weapon that allows you to do more effectively what was done before. Russia built “fifth columns” on protest sentiments. With digital weapons they can do this much more effectively. Technology is what accelerates trends that already exist.
It is difficult to talk about digital weapons, because its main battlefield does not belong to the state and is not under its control. Of course, American companies are dominant (as are Chinese ones), but the government is not the owner of the weapons. And the need for collaboration between the private and public sectors has never been more urgent than now. But the ability to establish such cooperation has never been as weak as it is now. Now there is suspicion towards the government, towards privacy. It's very difficult to get the private sector to cooperate when it's really needed,” she said.
