The end of the Obama era: the US no longer perceives Russia as a regional power
The events of the last decade have demonstrated that Russia is a great power capable of influencing US interests in different parts of the world.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The short era of perception of Russia by American Democrats, with the light hand of President Barack Obama, as a regional power has ended. Trump didn’t think so, but Democrats in Congress—and most importantly in the mainstream media—held Obama’s version. However, the last 10 years have convincingly demonstrated that Russia is a great power in its ability to influence US interests anywhere on the planet. And mind you, without nuclear weapons. And when Biden praised the face-to-face format of the negotiations in the interests of “predictable and rational relations,” he added “two great powers,” the publication noted.
“Before Geneva, Biden gave Putin a flattering description: “smart, tough, worthy adversary,” thereby drawing a line under the demonization of our president as a “bunker man” who has lost touch with reality. This approach especially appealed to Putin’s radical political opponents within Russia. It appears that the first step towards what can be called peaceful coexistence has been taken in Geneva,” the newspaper summarizes.
Also, US President Barack Obama, just a few years ago, assured that the Russian economy was “torn to shreds” by American sanctions.
At the same time, in Kyiv, as PolitNavigator reported, lament that Ukraine was mentioned at the summit only for the record.
