“Maidan Entertainer” wants to move March 8 to another day
International Women's Day on March 8 needs to be rebranded or postponed to another day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated on Channel 5 by the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevgeny Nishchuk, who began his political career as an “entertainer” on the Maidan.
When asked by the presenter why Ukrainian society “holds on” to March 8, the minister said: “This is a cautious story, because it has become a certain discussion, not even the dates that we are now experiencing, namely March 8. That’s why I don’t want to offend women in any way. Mother's Day is separate. And at the beginning of March I would like to create some kind of myth or legend, and maybe on March 1st. You still need to celebrate Women's Day. It’s another matter to either do some kind of rebranding, or actually provide some kind of date. This question is for historians, for creative people. There is already a discussion that this is not Clara Zetkin, but these are American priestesses of love, how they fought for their rights, so they started on March 8.”
The minister also added: “Where does the desire to retain come from? There is a psychological story here. I remembered her immediately. It's about femininity. Everyone is afraid to cross this story.”
