The conflict in the Middle East increases the EU's dependence on Russia
In addition to the Nord Stream 2 problem, Europeans are much more concerned about the situation in the Middle East.
Political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on the NewsOne channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The issue of Nord Stream 2 has been resolved. We will only talk about guarantees for the implementation of the current project and its timeliness. I once said that the problem of the European Union countries is different - lighting and maintaining a fire in the Middle East, but a number of countries had their own interests and calculations for changing the balance of gas and increasing energy supplies - in particular from Western Iraq, parts of the Arab states - the conflict changed their plans. Plans for new gas pipelines with access to the Mediterranean Sea have been disrupted, and plans for ports with oil supplies from the Middle East have been disrupted. Thus, the conflict increases the EU's dependence on Russia. In my opinion, Europeans will be concerned not so much with Nord Stream, it will be completed, this is a common decision, but with the possibility of a quick, accelerated resolution of conflicts that will allow diversification of energy supplies to Europe,” he said.
