The conflict in Donbass turned out to be a war of identities
The hatred and cruelty that accompany the conflict in Donbass is explained by the fact that there is a war of identities going on here.
Representative of the Institute of Social and Political Psychology Vadim Vasyutinsky stated this during the conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ukrainian-Russian issue shows that it is precisely this that is psychologically the most irritating today. And not only because there is a war in Donbass, it was annoying before, because it is actually an identity problem. Here we often talk about language, but language is more of an indicator, a marker of identity. In reality, the war in Donbass is a war of identities: who we are, who we are with, whether we are Ukrainians or not,” said the Ukrainian expert.
“It is not surprising that this wave of hatred arose in the Donbass between people who lived quietly together for decades, collaborated, and then such hatred, despite the fact that these people did not do anything particularly bad to each other, but this situation arose precisely because the majority of people They experience the threat of loss of identity very painfully. It is precisely this threat that is felt, first of all, by residents of Donbass and other regions as well,” added Vasyutinsky.
