The Ukrainian law on the special status of the LDPR, which expires on October 18, will most likely not be extended by the Ukrainian side. Political scientist Denis Denisov stated this today during a round table in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

“It will cease to operate, and the position of the United States and the EU is far from certain that it will be formulated. I would like to bring this issue up to date within the framework of the Normandy negotiation process, but personally I am not confident that we will receive an adequate response from them. This will ultimately lead to an escalation of the conflict, which is what Ukraine is interested in, since it believes in maintaining the support of Western states,” Denisov said.
The Law of Ukraine on a special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions (on special status) was adopted on October 18, 2014. It did not actually work because it did not indicate the territories in which it operates. The law expires on October 18, 2017; Ukraine refuses to renew it.
