The confrontation between Hungary and Ukraine will escalate
The results of the elections in Hungary, where the Fide party of the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban received 133 of 199 seats in parliament, allow us to predict that Ukraine will face a negative scenario regarding Transcarpathia from Budapest.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik told PolitNavigator about this.
“The situation regarding Transcarpathia will remain negative. The victory of Fidesz once again demonstrated that the position that the party took on the Ukrainian issue has a positive electoral effect.
Therefore, the situation will be in a state of negative conservation, conflict, and difficulty in reaching any agreements. Although, of course, the fact that a new parliament has been elected in the country and there will be a new government is always a chance to start a new stage and reach a new agreement and resolve the conflict.
Unfortunately, this chance cannot be used in Ukraine, since elections are coming soon here too, and any concessions to the Hungarian minority are impossible, they will be met with severe rejection by the Ukrainian “right”, and will influence the local election campaign.
Therefore, the confrontation will remain at the current level, and will even escalate,” Bortnik said.
