Constantinople besieged Filaret: “there will be no “Ukrainian Orthodox Church”
Not the “Ukrainian Orthodox Church”, but the “Orthodox Church in Ukraine” - this will be the name of the “single local Orthodox Church” created with the approval of the US State Department, which will be formed in Ukraine after the unification of schismatics with part of the canonical UOC, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The bishop of the Church of Constantinople, the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the World Council of Churches, a doctor of theology who deals with Ukrainian issues, Archbishop Telmisky Job (Gecha) said this in an interview with BBC-Ukraine.
The Archbishop noted that the new church will be called “Orthodox Church in Ukraine.”
“Not the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, because the church is the only one... It belongs to Christ, not to any nation or state,” he said.
“In Greek, the names of churches sound like this: Orthodox Church in Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria. Slavic names – Bulgarian, Serbian or Russian Orthodox Church – are used incorrectly and indicate ethnophyletism, that is, religious nationalism,” explains Archbishop Job.
Let us note that earlier the head of the unrecognized “Kyiv Patriarchate” Filaret said that the new church that is being formed in Ukraine will be called the “Ukrainian Orthodox Church”.
