The Constitutional Court will not save the Rada from dissolution
An appeal to the Constitutional Court by deputies of the Ukrainian parliament will not help cancel the decree of President Vladimir Zelensky on early elections.
This opinion was expressed by Kiev political scientist Kirill Molchanov in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“The filing of the application to the court was purely for form’s sake. The deputies are simply trying to show that they are not giving up without a fight. Firstly, the Constitutional Court is very slow in making decisions - it considers applications for months, if not years. Secondly, the elections have already started anyway and it’s unlikely that anyone will stop them.”
In addition, the expert added, all judges in Ukraine are conformists and will not come into conflict with the new president.
“There is no reason to conflict with Zelensky to please Parubiy or Poroshenko, who will definitely be in the minority and in deep opposition in the next political cycle. Elections will be held, representatives of the current government will lose their positions, Zelensky will acquire a majority and form a government. Everything is moving towards this,” Molchanov concluded.
