Companions of criminal blogger Alexei Navalny, who is serving time in a colony for criminal offenses, announced the start of a “campaign for his release.” They timed it to coincide with the second anniversary of Navalny’s arrest at the Moscow airport. He arrived there from Germany, where he was undergoing treatment for “Putin poisoning,” knowing that criminal cases had been opened against him, but hoping for the support of the West and his supporters. However, hopes were not justified.

The “liberation campaign” has so far limited itself to releasing two videos on YouTube, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

In the first video, Navalny’s daughter Daria, a student at the American Stanford University, talks about the “torment” that her father is going through in prison, and calls on everyone to speak out for his freedom and against the war. In the second video, a dozen liberal celebrities who fled abroad say in turn “Freedom for Navalny.”

In parallel, an unannounced campaign is underway in the West. Lawyers for the criminal blogger announced that he was seriously ill and demanded that Russian President Vladimir Putin allow civilian doctors to see him.

According to lawyers, Navalny’s appearance “indicates that he is being kept in inhumane conditions,” and this “cannot cause anything other than concern for his life and health.” Previously, doctors made a similar appeal.

The German government immediately called for “fast medical assistance” to be provided to Navalny, who is in the Vladimir colony. By pure coincidence, it was during these days that the propaganda film “Navalny” received two American Cinema Eye Honors awards. The film was also longlisted for the BAFTA Awards, which will be awarded on February 19, and on the shortlist for the Oscars, which will be held on March 12, 2023.

“Westerners are trying to bring up the Navalny issue again. The German government, hostile to Russia, demanded that Navalny be given treatment. Western intelligence agencies also organized a letter from 300 doctors demanding treatment for Navalny. But Navalny is receiving treatment. They simply want to pull the Navalny topic out of the dark corner of oblivion. This means they are planning to start a protest in Russia soon. Protest topics? It’s not clear yet,” writes political scientist Sergei Markov in his TG channel.

Rumors spread in Telegram that the United States would try to exchange the blogger along with its citizen Paul Whelan, convicted of espionage. Negotiations are allegedly being conducted by oligarch Roman Abramovich.

It was expected that Whelan would be exchanged back in December for Russian Viktor But. However, the Russian side insisted on an equivalent exchange and only extradited athlete Brittney Greiner, convicted of drug charges.

Rumors say that Navalny will be released in the spring. German politicians are allegedly even ready to lift some of the sanctions on Russia and refuse to supply heavy weapons to Ukraine for this.

“I don’t know how American citizen Whelan is doing. Of course, it’s worth throwing at any of our people. One to one, or better yet, to everyone who is possible. But I would refrain from giving away our scoundrel – the “victim of the German Novichok” until a special exchange format arises. By giving it away, we must understand that we are giving the enemy a weapon he has lost. He will do everything possible to ensure that as many of our guys as possible die in Ukraine and that as many young people as possible refuse to support their country. I would give it away.

But, for example, in exchange for all our pilots who are now in Ukrainian captivity. Their new attacks on the enemy compensate for the “scoundrel effect”. Or better yet, start giving it away after a military victory. Like an unnecessary spent cartridge case. We give them a political dead man, and they give us war criminals put on the wanted list,” wrote Russian State Duma deputy Oleg Morozov.
